Departments and Staff Bios
Steve Quirk, President and Publisher
Steve graduated from the University of Saint Thomas with a degree in economics and began his full-time career at Quirk’s in January 1994. Steve started as directories manager, became the business manager, and upon Tom Quirk's retirement, was elevated to president. As president, Steve not only oversees Quirk's staff and all daily operations, but ensures that Quirk's is offering its audience the best marketing research content possible.
He has two daughters and is a diehard University of Minnesota and Twins fan.
Dan Quirk, Vice President of Marketing and Product Development
A graduate of the University of Saint Thomas with a Master's degree in business communication, Dan began his career at Quirk’s in January 1993. Dan has coordinated the Quirk's Web site (quirks.com) since its initial launch in early 1996. His work involves developing new products and strategic partnerships that expand and enhance Quirk’s global presence and add value to the industry. Over the last five years, he has been responsible for numerous product launches and 300 percent growth in audience. Dan has a great passion for finding the "what's next" product and service offering while avoiding fads.
Dan is a frequent traveler and bicyclist and says that, if time and resources were no object, he would love to work in community development.
Chris Nechanicky (neck-a-nicky), Office Administrator
Chris joined Quirk’s in April 2015 as office administrator, which includes office operations, administration, human resources and accounting. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities with a degree in interior design. She has worked in the industries of interior design, architecture, real estate development and civic engagement.
Chris is the mother of two children and spends almost all her time as their number one fans at their activities. When given free time, she loves to create digital photo albums that tell the stories of people’s lives. Her favorite season is fall, but loves the change of seasons in Minnesota.
Evan Tweed, Vice President of Sales
Evan began his career at Quirk’s back in June 1990 as a sales rep for the company's first Researcher SourceBook. Now, Evan is vice president of sales and represents the Eastern and Western U.S. and Canada, as well as the European markets. Conference-goers will often see Evan at the many research-related events throughout the year.
Evan is married and a father of three. As native Minnesotan and avid cyclist, he enjoys mountain bike, endurance gravel and snow bike racing; the Minnesota Wild and Gopher hockey; and a nice IPA.
Lance Streff, Sales Representative, Central U.S., South America, Asia
With over 16 years of sales experience, Lance Streff joined Quirk’s in September 2007 and is the Central territory sales representative, selling advertisement space for the print publication, e-newsletter and Web site.
Lance is a father of two and lives on beautiful Lotus Lake. Lance says that he couldn’t go a day without his XM radio; Elvis is one of his favorites, and Lance counts his Elvis autograph among his most-prized possessions.
Joe Rydholm, Editor
A graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in journalism, Joe has been editor of Quirk’s Marketing Research Review Magazine since August 1988. Joe coordinates with industry experts to produce articles that are timely, practical and useful.
Joe is the father of two daughters and enjoys participating in fantasy sports leagues, especially baseball. A seasoned traveler, Joe recalls a plane ride with his wife around the Strait of Magellan in Ushuaia, Argentina, the world’s southernmost city, as one of his greatest travel experiences.
Emily Koenig, Content Editor
Emily is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas with a degree in English and communication journalism. She joined Quirk’s as the digital content editor in 2014.
An avid reader, Emily is particularly fond of the 1920s writers know as “The Lost Generation.” Emily spends the majority of her time with her husband, family, friends and her loveable English Springer Spaniel Nika.
Sara Cady, Editorial News Assistant
Sara graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Professional Journalism and English Literature. She joined the Quirk’s team as the Editorial News Assistant in May 2015.
In her free time Sara enjoys reading and creative writing, watching horror movies and taking long walks around the lake with her rescue dog Ruby.
Ilana Benusa, Directory Account Representative
With more than 20 years of experience in sales and education, Ilana joined Quirk’s in 2014 as the Directory Account Representative. Ilana has a Bachelor’s degree in marketing from Georgia State University.
Originally from Charlotte, N.C., Ilana moved to Wisconsin in 2005 from the Atlanta area. Ilana is the mother of one and is now a loyal Packers fan. When she retires, Ilana plans to move with her husband to North Carolina where she would love to open a bakery and promote the musical arts by hiring students to perform for customers.
Jim Quirk, Production Manager
Jim began working as production manager in April 1986 when the magazine was first launched. As production manager he designs and manages the magazine layout and coordinates the printing process.
Jim has three children and is a huge fan of Gopher hockey. One fact most people might not know about Jim is that he is a member of Mensa.
Jim is the son of Quirk’s Marketing Research Review founder Tom Quirk.
Ralene Miller, Audience Development
Ralene graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor’s degree in language arts and communications. She joined Quirk’s as the directory editor in 2014.
Originally from Alabama, Ralene is a die-hard SEC football fan. (Go War Eagles!) Ralene and her wife are proud parents of a Shiba Inu puppy. When time (and Minnesota weather) permits, Ralene loves to spend her weekends camping, fishing and participating in renaissance and fantasy faires with friends.
