Robert H. McGuckin III, director of economic research at the Conference Board since 1996, former chief of the Center for Economic Studies at the U.S. Census Bureau, and a pioneer in economic research on U.S. job creation and destruction and productivity trends, died on March 12 at his home in Alexandria, Va. He was 63. The cause of death was neuroendocrine cancer. McGuckin established one of the first international databases providing country-by-country comparisons of productivity growth and living standards in more than 100 countries and oversaw the development of the U.S. Census Bureau/National Science Foundation Research Data Center network. He was an expert on worldwide productivity trends and their impact on living standards.
