Social media is a rich source of authentic data for health care marketing research and has the potential of offering a paradigm shift in the way in which healthcare marketing research data are collected, analyzed and used to make business decisions. To date, the pharmaceutical industry has taken a cautious approach to methodologies that leverage social media data. Clearly the marketing and market research teams within the healthcare companies need to have clear guidance as to what is acceptable, what risks exist and what can be done to mitigate these risks. Kantar Health will share experiences with running MROCs and social media listening projects and highlight the critical need for agencies operating in this space to really understand the regulatory implications on a global basis and share the key considerations that need to be addressed including responsibilities for collecting and reporting adverse events that are identified.
Are social media guidelines needed? Susan McDonald and Duane Berlin will share information from CASRO’s effort to develop research guidelines for social media.
