Customer Advisory Panel

I am considering starting some customer advisory panels and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions or can direct me to any reference material on this topic

As a national homebuilder, we have been hit very hard by this recession and so has my research budget. Given this situation, I will be conducting fewer focus groups and am looking at this as a lower costing research tool.

Of course, I realize that there will be some shortcomings to this approach; however, during this slower period I have to be innovative in the way I approach my mission of bringing the customer's voice into the company.

Any advice would be appreciated.
