When was the last time you called yourself? Seriously – you might want to.
Not yourself, personally, but your company. As if you were a customer, or just someone wanting to find out more about your products or capabilities.
I ask this question because I just tried to contact several market research companies listed in our SourceBook directory. My phone call launched me into voicemail purgatory, where I was prompted to enter the “first four characters of the person’s last name.” Well, my person wasn’t listed, or I didn’t have a name, so I resorted to the default – “press ‘0’ to leave a message for the general mailbox.”
Unfortunately, the next message was “I’m sorry – this mailbox is full. Goodbye.” And then a dial tone.
So, I couldn’t tell anyone at the company that I had a customer trying to send them an RFP – but that their e-mail address wasn’t working and the RFP had bounced back to us.
Take a minute and call yourself! The worst-case scenario is that you’ll waste a minute of your time but be reassured at the workings of your phone system. Although perhaps the worst-case scenario would be that you are launched into voicemail purgatory – leaving you to wonder how long it has been going on.
