User Experience Research Manager

Key Lime Interactive (KLI) is looking for a qualified and dynamic REMOTE User Experience Strategy and Research Manager to join our awesome team!

We are known for helping Fortune 500 companies understand their user’s needs by mapping out their customers’ journeys, developing behavioral personas, usability testing, and co-designing new products with the user top of mind using proven research methodologies.

The UX Strategy and Research Manager is responsible for managing multiple projects and ensuring they all deliver on time and meet our demands for high quality. In addition to management responsibilities, the position is responsible for effectively executing projects as the lead researcher when assigned. Below is a list of primary responsibilities for this position. Additional responsibilities may include those that typically fall under the roles of UX Researcher, UX Specialist, Senior UX Researcher, or on an as-needed basis. The employee must be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance to KLI.  Those areas are outlined below.

May be required to occasionally work irregular hours, nights, and weekends as required.

Project Oversight / Client Management (45%):

  • Responsible for independent Project Management from Kickoff to Delivery and meeting required deadlines

  • Ability to listen to client’s/prospect’s research needs and create a research proposal 

  • Within a specified timeline and with no assistance from leadership, lead a project from Kickoff to Delivery 

  • Responsible for appropriately delegating research duties to fellow researchers (e.g., maximizing the strengths of individuals you are managing)

  • Keep the project on schedule and proactively problem-solve as the need arises

  • Responsible for identifying and upselling projects when interacting with clients

  • Manage and nurture relationships by providing strategic UX guidance and tactical support (e.g., budgeting, invoicing, project scoping)

  • Provide strategic direction to clients for long-term planning

  • QA work on engagements you are leading and researchers you are managing

Project Lead / Individual Contribution (30%):

  • Ability to direct Recruitment or do it if needed 

  • Create all Study Design materials including of Screener, Discussion Guide, Workshop Templates, Final Deliverable, etc. 

  • Be able to moderate at a senior level (e.g. no leading, biases, rapport building, etc.) 

  • If needed, be your own note-taker for small projects or support another researcher you are managing/mentoring.

  • Lead Analysis

  • Be accountable and responsible for deliverables, ensuring high-quality output that “Puts the Ribbon On Our Work” 

  • Presenting to senior leadership/clients. Answer questions in a timely manner. 

People Management (~5-15%):

  • Ability to lead by example

  • Manage/ oversee individual researchers (3-10 junior to mid UXRs)

  • Ability to develop/provide guidance to less experienced researchers

  • Willingness to have difficult conversations, if needed

  • Be involved in hiring (interviews and decisions), performance management (coaching and counseling), and employee relations

Sales Support (~10-15%):

  • Ability to contribute to proposal research 

  • Ability to be part of sales meetings with prospects and answer research-specific questions regarding usability test methods

  • Contribute to the writing of proposals and SOWs (as needed)  

Thought Leadership (~5-10%): 

  • Complete quarterly rocks (goals) on time and ensure direct reports also completed on time

  • Submit to speak/present at least once a year to a conference (e.g., UXPA)

  • Submit a minimum of one blog article per quarter (min 4/year)

  • Attend Key Lime or Usability-related events when asked

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field

  • Minimum Experience: 4 Years of multi-method UX research experience

  • Preferred Education: Master's Degree, preferred fields of education: Statistics, Human Factors, HCI, Industrial Engineering, Anthropology, Social Psychology, Marketing (Research), or MBA. 

  • Preferred Experience: 5+ Years in the trenches UX research experience, multi-method, working with Fortune 500 clients or agencies supporting Fortune 500 clients.  Exposure to emerging tech engagements (Voice, AR/MR, VR, AI, etc.). Speaks at conferences or has published written papers. 2 years managing a team.
