It seems that the podcast universe has exploded once again this year – both in popularity and topics being covered. You can now find a podcast covering any topic under the sun, including a somewhat intriguing podcast about the sun if that’s your thing. But what about podcasts for those of us in marketing research?
Before launching a podcast, I was unaware that there were any other podcasts for market researchers. So, my team did some legwork – researching, identifying and listening to podcasts, covering any and all topics related to market research. We logged hours of listening time. And we found that there was indeed some great market research content already out there.
Why they started
When asked about motivations for producing a podcast, Sima Vasa, 20-year industry veteran and host of the Data Gurus podcast, said, “I decided to do a podcast to really learn and understand where our industry is going. It gives me the opportunity to share and give back to our industry as my guests share real-life examples and perspectives with listeners. If you can’t get to a conference, you now have other options to learn and grow.”
Paul Kirch, host of the Audible Insights Podcast, echoed Vasa’s view, “I strive to give listeners actionable information and hopefully a reason to stop and think about their own research or business process. We can learn from each other if we open our minds, so I always hope that listeners come in with an open mind and an eager heart to improve what they do.”
I have similar motivations. I love the idea of getting market researchers to look for enlightenment outside our industry that can then be applied to improving what we do. From how a magician or comedian controls an audience in real-time to how an uber-successful real estate broker understands exactly what to say to close a seven-figure deal. It’s exciting to uncover those “aha moments” and share them with my listeners.
Now I’d like to help spread the word about these podcasts and their hosts who, like me, are driven to invest their time in order to advance discussions around critical and timely market research topics and issues.
Here is my short list of podcasts for market researchers. I encourage you to tune in on your next commute, when you’re killing time in-flight or when you need a mental break. You’ll be smarter for it.
