More than one-third of Americans say they are not planning to take a vacation in 2011. According to a survey from BIGresearch, Worthington, Ohio, the majority (67.2 percent) of Americans staying at home this year say a lack of disposable income is a reason they are not taking a vacation. Almost 45 percent say high gas prices influenced this decision.
Almost 12 percent of those who take one or more vacations a year are opting out of travel in 2011. More of these regular vacationers are feeling the pressure at the pump, as 48.1 percent said high gas prices influenced their vacation plans. One in 10 regular vacationers are planning a "staycation."
Other reasons not to take a vacation in 2011 include not enough time off of work (10.5 percent); saving for a large purchase (7.1 percent); planning a "staycation" (8.8 percent); and no desire to go on vacation (18.9 percent).
